Voting for Webcastr Second Annual Video of the Year Closes on January 13 – Winners Announced Next Day

Webcastr, a leading aggregator and distributor of professional online video content, will announce its second annual “Video of the Year” award on Wednesday, January 14. Entries may be voted upon up until midnight of January 13, 2009. The Video of the Year award honors the top professional-quality online video produced and distributed during the year 2008 and it includes both straight-to-Web “viral videos” as well as short form material originally broadcast on television, but which had a more measurable impact online.

This year’s leading finalists include the “Yes We Can” video by that caused an online sensation during the California Democratic primary, several Saturday Night Live clips of Tina Fey impersonating Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, and the “I Kissed a Girl” music video by pop star Katy Perry. In addition to honoring the top 10 videos overall, category awards will be given out for the top vote getters in Politics, Music, Comedy and more. Winners are chosen from a combination of users votes and Webcastr’s panel of editors.

“We believe that professionally produced, short-form video content is the next mainstream entertainment medium,” said Tim Devine, founder and CEO of Webcastr. “We plan to be CNN for the MySpace generation.”
