‘Transformers’ DVD storms stores today

The week’s DVD blockbuster will, to the surprise of no one, be Michael Bay’s live-action “Transformers” (***, Paramount), in single-disc form ($29.99), as a two-disc “Special Edition” ($36.99) and on HD-DVD ($39.99). Along with all the extras included on the two-disc edition, the HD disc contains Web-enabled features that, according, to the distributor, will continue to expand and evolve “for months, even years” into the future.

“Transformers” is far more entertaining than any movie based on a revived 1980s toy fad has any right to be. It’s also far more engaging than any film masterminded by special-effects and action-movie maestro Bay has any right to be.
“The Transformers” DVD provides further proof, as if we needed it, of the allure of high-definition reproduction and home theater capability. Remasters of “Lawrence of Arabia” and Kurosawa movies aside, this technology is at its most impressive in the reproduction of loud and elaborately conceived and produced spectacles.

I’m not sure if ya’ll have seen “The Emperor’s New Groove”… but work always reminds me of that scene where the potions fall on the guards and the one raises his hand and says… “Uh.. I’ve been turned into a cow… can I go home now?”

Whenever I want to go home I say this and people look at me oddly.

Sighs.

There are disadvantages to being a geek.

AMAZING movie

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Probably one of the most imaginative movies I’ve seen in a long time. Will Farrell’s performance as a man who finds out that his life is a literary work is NOT to be missed. This movie is easily going to be on my top ten movies of all time.

If you’re a SciFi fan at all you’ve heard of the series of books this movie is based on. A fun, crazy romp through space! Great family movie.

Hot chicks, Fights and Scifi? I’m there!

Make sure you check out the Firefly series first, but this movie is a kicking continuation of the sadly canceled TV series. Fueled by a rabid fan base, this sure to be deeemed “cult classic” has topped Amazon’s charts for over a year after it’s release. If you haven’t seen or don’t own this film buy it now! You won’t be sorry. Even for those who aren’t of the SciFi watching crowd, the brilliant story of a man who has lost all he has – and still pushes on will have you wanting more.

Rebirth of the Musical!

Disney’s Highschool Musical is a great adventure for the “tween” crowd. Family-friendly storyline, catchy songs and a great cast make this a runaway hit that no one was expecting. I’m outside the target market and LOVE this movie. Make sure to also check out the soundtrack if you find yourself singing along.

Political Comic Book movie?

V For Vendetta is from the guys behind the Matrix. This movie is beautifully shot with a very interesting political theme. Natalie Portman (best known for her role on the Star Wars movies) as Evey is amazing. This role really shows her acting chops. The DVD is chock full of extras (especially the special edition). A good night’s romp in a futuristic society with a hero who is anything but ordinary.
